Our Clinical Pharmacy Services team has a clear mission. We help healthcare organizations achieve positive patient outcomes and maximize the efficiency of drug utilization through innovative and effective consulting and service models. The expectations we have of our residents are aligned with this goal. Each resident contributes measurable efforts to ensure that we remain a national leader in clinical expertise as well as responsiveness to the needs of the public and our clients.

Residency program purpose statement

To build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop managed care pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership, and education skills who are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A managed care pharmacy residency will provide systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice. 

Academic emphasis

Our postgraduate residency program is affiliated with several area schools of pharmacy, which provide many opportunities to precept students, provide classroom facilitation, and serve as mentors to students.

Our highly qualified preceptors guide residents in an unmatched variety of experiences — exposure to drug policy development, clinical services marketing, administration, clinical initiative development, and hands-on clinical work.

After completing our residency program, you will have achieved a high level of proficiency in multiple areas of pharmacy practice — allowing you to pursue a variety of career paths and become a leader within the profession.

Program standards

Our PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency is one of the few programs accredited by both the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). By meeting the training standards of these organizations, we provide an environment conducive to learning with individualized guidance to achieve professional competence in operational and clinical services in managed care pharmacy and in the delivery of patient-centered care.
