Searchable Drug List for Massachusetts Medicaid

Commonwealth Medicine transformed the MassHealth Drug List from a static list to a searchable database in 2011. This upgrade created a more efficient way for MassHealth providers to identify and prescribe appropriate drugs for their patients — both improving patient outcomes and helping control costs.

The MassHealth Drug List online database indexes drugs covered by MassHealth. It also details any prior authorization requirements or quantity limits. Before our consulting team launched the new database, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services website featured a simple alphabetical catalog of brand name and generic prescription drugs, accompanied by therapeutic class tables.

Now, health care providers can use the versatile search function to find classes of drugs for specific diseases, in addition to individual drugs on the list.
