As a clinical consultant pharmacist at UMass Medical Schoo, Andrew Coelho has extensive experience working with pharmacy benefit management in government-sponsored healthcare programs including Medicare and state Medicaid programs across the country. He is responsible for overseeing a Medicaid pediatric behavioral health medication initiative to promote safety and the appropriate prescribing of psychiatric medications in children. In this role, he leads a multidisciplinary and multi-agency therapeutic class management workgroup, interacts with prescribers and pharmacies, and is responsible for program integrity. He also provides formulary recommendations for specialty medications, data analytics support and reviews prior authorization requests for clients.
Coelho received his doctorate from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences—Boston (now MCPHS University) and completed post-graduate residency training with WellCare Health Plans, Inc. Previously, he has served as an Clinical Adjunct Faculty at Western New England University School of Pharmacy.
