Joyce Boden works with Massachusetts state hospital leaders to assess, recommend, and support the achievement of quality care through the systemwide development of standard safety metrics, dashboards, and education councils, among other efforts. She partnered with the independently operated Office of the Ombudsman, which monitored the Massachusetts Department of Correction’s efforts to mitigate and control the COVID-19 pandemic in the state’s prisons, jails, and houses of correction. Boden also served as incident commander during the subsequent COVID-19 surge and was recognized for outstanding performance.

With extensive experience at the executive level across the health care continuum, including inpatient acute care, ambulatory, and home health care services, Boden has a strong track record in fiscal and operational management, relationship building, mentorship, and leadership development. Prior to joining Commonwealth Medicine, she supported a new CEO during acute phases of the pandemic and built an executive leadership team as interim chief operating officer at Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children. At Emerson Hospital, Boden served as chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services after holding similar leadership roles at New England Baptist Hospital.

Boden earned both her master’s degree in management and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Emmanuel College. She was a Massachusetts Healthcare College Fellow (Massachusetts Hospital Association) and a Beckwith Fellow for Healthcare Administration (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center). Boden has extensive knowledge of and experience with Lean and continuous improvement principles.
