Karen Stevens, PharmD is a clinical consultant pharmacist for Clinical Pharmacy Services at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Her main duties encompass new drug reviews, quality assurance analyses, therapeutic class reviews and assisting with formulary management for MassHealth. In addition, she is actively involved in the management of the High Dose Therapeutic Class Management Opioid Workgroup as well as acting as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents. Stevens also serves in a consultative role to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to carry out the charge of the Massachusetts Drug Formulary Commission to create and maintain a formulary of abuse-deterrent opioid formulations that may serve as substitutions for non-abuse deterrent opioids that pose a heightened public health risk.
Stevens received both her Bachelor of Science Degree and Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Rhode Island’s School of Pharmacy. Additionally, she completed a general pharmacy practice residency at Boston Medical Center.
