In her role as Medical Director, Dr. Maria Garcia has provided medical leadership to our clinical pharmacy program since 2006. In addition to serving as medical liaison for the program’s pharmacy contracts, she has leadership and consultative roles in hospital care reimbursement and pharmacy utilization management.
Dr. Garcia has implemented medication management initiatives such as targeted opioid case management for state Medicaid programs. She has consulted on complex medical cases and has performed evidence-based data evaluation of medical literature, including cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-benefit analysis and decision analysis (including prioritization) for the allocation of coverage for certain classes of medications.
Dr. Garcia received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. She completed internal medicine residency training at the Boston University Medical Residency Program, and received her master’s degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts.
