Michelle Richard joined UMass Medical School in 2004 as a disability reviewer, and since 2006, she has managed a team of disability reviewers. She provides leadership for a number of special programs, including Boston Healthcare for the Homeless and the Department of Corrections. She has more than 15 years of public- and private-sector experience in mental health, vocational rehabilitation, case management, and community reintegration.
Ms. Richard is the lead manager for Disability Transition Strategies, which provides ergonomic evaluations and Social Security Disability Insurance application and appeals services.
Prior to joining UMass Medical School, Ms. Richard worked in the private sector providing vocational case management services to individuals receiving Worker’s Compensation and Veteran Administration (Chapter 31) benefits. She also worked with an inpatient mental health unit providing life management skills, job coaching, and community reintegration.
Ms. Richard received an MEd degree in rehabilitation counseling with a concentration in psychiatric and mental health and a BS degree in therapeutic recreation from Springfield College. She is a certified rehabilitation counselor and a certified ergonomic assessment specialist.
