Clinical Consultant Pharmacist Team Lead and Residency Program Director, Clinical Pharmacy Services

Thomas Pomfret is a Clinical Consultant Pharmacist Team Lead and the Residency Program Director for the ASHP/AMCP-accredited, Postgraduate Year-One (PGY1) Managed Care Pharmacy Residency for pharmacy services at UMass Chan Medical School.

Pomfret has demonstrated expertise in the creation and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs and drug formulary management, as well as the assessment of drug formulary placement of new and specialty products. Throughout his career in hospital, academia, and managed care, Pomfret has been a contributor to multiple Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committees providing evidence-based and cost-effective recommendations. Pomfret has developed and implemented clinical criteria guidelines for multiple managed care organizations for utilization in a high volume clinical call center, and has provided drug information and clinical support services for various health systems and employer groups, as well as Medicaid, Commercial, and Health Exchange insurance plans. As the Residency Program Director, Pomfret provides a hands-on, practice-oriented approach to mentoring residents on formulary management strategies, cost containment initiatives, quality assurance and improvement analyses, as well as leadership opportunities, clinical research, and their overall professional development throughout their residency experience. He oversees the administration of the program and ensures that each resident receives optimal experiences through exposure with a varied clientele, and collaboration with over thirteen clinical staff preceptors.    

Pomfret received a Doctor of Pharmacy degreed from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (Boston) and a Master in Public Health in Health Policy and Management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
