High school student calls UMass Medical School health careers program a “perfect fit”

February 25, 2014

Fitchburg High School student Alaina Valcourt tells WCVB Channel 5 that a statewide youth-to-health careers program at UMass Medical School is a perfect fit for her aspirations to become a doctor.

Valcourt, featured in the station’s A Plus segment on Feb. 19, is a member of MassAHEC’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). A national student organization, HOSA promotes career opportunities in health care to young people.

The Massachusetts chapters are part of a partnership between HOSA and UMass Medical School’s Massachusetts Area Health Education Center (MassAHEC) Network. The network raises health career awareness by inspiring and training a diverse range of health professionals to practice in communities where the need is greatest.

Each spring, MassAHEC HOSA hosts an annual State Leadership Conference at the medical school.
