A UMass Medical School clinical pharmacy manager will discuss the nation’s opioid epidemic, Massachusetts’ response and how pharmacists can play a role at MCPHS University’s sixth annual Stoklosa Symposium Oct. 22 at the Holiday Inn in Peabody.

Kimberly Lenz, PharmD, an assistant professor of Family Medicine and Community Health and a clinical pharmacy manager in Commonwealth Medicine’s Office of Clinical Affairs, will present “The Opioid Crisis: Efforts in Massachusetts to Address a Pressing Public Health Issue.” Lenz will provide an overview of data on opioid use and misuse, recent legislative changes in Massachusetts and MassHealth initiatives to combat the crisis, and share best practices in opioid prescribing.

As part of her faculty appointment in Family Medicine and Community Health at UMass Medical School, Lenz will give lectures about pain management in the medical school’s Graduate School of Nursing. She also is a lecturer at MCPHS University.
