Harvard University presents Office of Clinical Affairs director with leadership award in public health

The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has bestowed the Leadership Award in Public Health Practice on Carolyn S. Langer, MD, MPH, JD, director of UMass Medical School’s Office of Clinical Affairs. The award was presented during alumni weekend festivities Sept. 24.

Dr. Langer leads the Office of Clinical Affairs, a unit of UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division that provides clinical leadership and management functions to MassHealth, Massachusetts’ Medicaid program.  In this role, Langer serves as medical director for MassHealth and is responsible for the medical management of all health care services provided by MassHealth to its members. She also is an associate professor of Family Medicine and Community Health.

She holds faculty positions at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Tufts University School of Medicine.

Langer received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and her master’s degree in public health and law degree from Harvard University. Langer also is board-certified in occupational medicine.
