October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which celebrates the many contributions of people with disabilities to America’s workplaces and economy. With this year’s theme – “America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion” – the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy is dedicated to ensuring that people with disabilities have full access to employment during the national recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Work Without Limits, an initiative of the Commonwealth Medicine division of UMass Chan Medical School, is marking NDEAM by offering organizations a complimentary webinar to support them in creating a more disability-inclusive workplace and increasing their employment of people with disabilities.

“Businesses are building and enriching their workforces in the wake of the pandemic – what better moment to learn best practices in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities and gaining the advantages that come with employing these creative, industrious, and well-rounded people,” said Kathleen A. Petkauskos, director of Work Without Limits.

“People with disabilities have life experiences that can help them succeed in today’s labor market, and these experiences can benefit any workplace,” Petkauskos stated.

Research shows that organizations embracing methods to employ and support people with disabilities in their workforce outperformed their peers with tangible, financial benefits.* And all their employees can realize an increased sense of belonging, engagement, and satisfaction that comes from working in an organization with a diverse and inclusive culture, noted Ms. Petkauskos.
